The brief wondrous life of Oscar Wao by Derek Walcott 11/18/08

The main character is Oscar a guy that was very happy as a child and then he got his heart broken by a girl and has had bad luck the rest of his life.

1. Should Oscar try to chane his bad luck?

” It seemed to Oscar that from that moment Maritza dumped him-Shazam!-his life started going down the tubes.”(pg.#16) I choosed this quote because this is were Oscar ’s life went down hill.

2. Should Oscar fight back the bullies?

“He walked into school every dat like the fat lonely nerdy kid he was, and all he could think about was the day of his manumission, when he would at last be set free from its unending horror. Hey, Oscar, are there faggots in Mars?-Hey, Kazoo, catch this.”(pg.#19) I choosed this quote because he would get bullied every day at school.

Victor was talking to his dad and his dad told him about how he was beggining to become a man and how to make the right choices in life.

1.Should Victor had listend to his dad’s advice?

“What a stupid damn fool I was. I’d done exactly what my dad had told me not to do. I’d listened to other people’s opinions instead of listening to what I’d felt inside.”(pg.#17) I choosed this quote because Victor made a mistake and he learned from it by the talk he had with his dad.

2. Should Victor have listend to what Richard said about changing his truck’s color?

“I’d loved my turquoise Chevy and I’d ruined it.”(pg.#17) I choosed this quote because Victor realized he had not listened to his dad’s advice.

In the story Victor had to take a girl to the school dance and he was worried because he didn’t knew how to do it. His date Becky ended up with another guy named Nick.

1. Should Victor asked Becky to dance with him instead of Nick?

“Do you mind if Nick and I dance together one more time?” What could I say? “Sure, of course, go ahead,” I said.” (pg.#31) I choose this quote because Victor didn’t have courage to tell Nick that he wanted to dance with her.

2. Should Victor have defended Becky’s honor? 

“Something crazyloco had happened to me deep inside when I saw that she hadn’t even appreciated what I’d tried to do to protect her honor. I felt so terrible I wanted to cry.” (pg.#32) I choose this quote because Victor learned another lesson from the speech his dad gave him.

Society of Others chp.1

I am kind to other people. I am not kind to other people. This shows that I am right that sometimes I am kind to other and sometimes I am not kind to others. I think that the narrator doesn’t care for money but that it is need for some ones survival. In the real world everything has to do with money in order to survive. Yes I agree with the narrator about how he sees things as they are. Some of the things we see are like lies that people make up to actually hide their feelings about things they don’t approve. I don’t agree with the narrator’s point of view about school because some of the thing they teach is needed for your survival in the real world. I think that the narrator means about the mountain is that when we do something we don’t se it but when we look back to it we see it clearly. I think what the narrator meant by saying “getting what you want is to be avoided at all cost” is that you can’t let people get in your way. No the narrator doesn’t have a good relationship with his parents because they lack communication. No the narrator doesn’t have a good relationship with his girlfriend because they lack communication and they have problems in their relationship. I don’t know if it is right but I think that it si wrong that he only thinks about the himself and not others.

Purpose of Life

I believe that life doesn’t make sense because we as humans don’t knowhow to explain it. An example would be that no one knows how to live your life. I believe that we have a purpose in life but we don’t know what it is and we are supposed to look for that purpose. An example would be that people give themselves a goal in life and they try to make it. I believe that we existed and then our purpose was given to us. An example would be that when we are born we don’t know how to do a lot of things and someone has to tell us how to do it. I believe that there is still a reason to live without a purpose or meaning. An example would be that there is more to life than a purpose or meaning that you have to look for one that is very important to you. I believe that it doesn’t matter that there is a god its just a belief people make up to make them fell better some one to blame peoples problems on. An example would be that someone doesn’t like their life they would blame others first then themselves. I believe that when we die its like a dream were you never wake up, but go through your whole life experiences over and over. An example would be hard to give because no one has come back from the dead to tell us. I believe that it doesn’t matter what happens after we die because we are dead and we can’t feel anything any more. I wouldn’t live my life differently if I knew I was never going to die. An example would be that people don’t want to change because they are scared and dead people can’t feel anything they are dead. I believe that its possible to create your own meaning to life. An example would be you have control of your life nobody else but you. If I could create my own meaning to life it would be to make people around me happy and stuff. An example would be that you can’t replace family.

Sophie’s Questions 2

     Yes philosophy is very important. Yeah I think I am some what of a philosopher. The most important thing in life would be family and friends. I believe this because we all need someone who case for us. I think we are here to fulfill a purpose.  Yeah life does have a purpose we were meant to discover or create some thing important. I believe this because why else would we be put here. Yes it is important to have a purpose in life that what motivates us to keep going. I think there is life after death that life would probably be some thing exciting and somewhat of a mystery. Yeah it is important to know if there is life after death because it helps calm down people that are about to die. There is a right way to live your life I think that it would be to live a happy and exciting life and to live the most out of it. I live my life right in the middle of the rabbit’s hair because some times I think about the questions that Sophie was asked. I think this metaphor means do you appreciate life or take it for granted. The top hat represents the universe the rabbit the earth and the magician god or something like god.

Sophie’s World Ch.1

Sophie is walking to her house with a friend. She gets home and checks her mailbox and finds an envelope with her name written on it she opens it and inside there is a question that says “Who are you?.” She then tries to realize who she is by looking at herself in the mirror. Then she gets another envelope with a different question that says “Were did the world come from?.” She then thinks really hard to come up with answer to the quetions. A human being is a person that is alive and has a purpose to something. To be a human being is being able to to show emotions and care for others. No you wouldn’t be a different person if you had a different name. The only thing that is different is the name and the name doesn’t make the person who he is. No you wouldn’t be a different person if you looked different the looks doesn’t make the person its what is inside that counts. I think there is life after death. No one knows if their right it depends on what the person thinks. I think its true that people live differently because we have to die someday. If we didn’t die we wouldn’t appreciate what life has to offer us. People would spen their time doing nothing important. I don’t know were the world came from but people have suggestions and people just suggests where it came from but no one really knows. I think it does matter were we came from it could solve a lot of questions that we have. Anything that exist must have a beginning because with out a beginning their wouldn’t be an end. Anything that exist haas a purpose for something great or something unimportant but a sole purpose. Anything that has always exited has to have a beginning no matter what. Anything that has existed has to have a beginning with out a beginning there wouldn’t be an end without an end there wouldn’t be a new beginning.
